Characteristics

The Aussiedoodle originally comes from the United States, with a specific breeding goal. It should combine the best characteristics and traits of the Poodle and the Australian Shepherd. These include the playful nature of the Australian Shepherd and the calm disposition of the Poodle. At the same time, both breeds are very eager to learn and intelligent. This is probably why the Aussiedoodle has an open and inquisitive nature. They are always friendly towards people and other dogs and are never aggressive. They love long walks, games and sporting activities.

There are three size classes, depending on which poodles were crossed in the breeding process: Toy Aussiedoodle, Mini Aussiedoodle and Standard Aussiedoodle. The Toy Aussiedoodle reaches a shoulder height of 35 cm and the Mini Aussiedoodle 45 cm. The Standard, on the other hand, is a medium-sized dog with a shoulder height of 45 to 55 cm.

The weight also varies greatly and is between 11 and 32 kg. Its physique is very athletic and underlines its sporty character. The coat is either slightly wavy or completely curly and is very soft to the touch.

In terms of color, the entire spectrum of Aussie and Poodle colors is covered. Aussiedoodles are also considered hypoallergenic dogs, as their coats do not cause allergic reactions.

The Aussiedoodle is well suited as a beginner's dog. However, it requires early socialization and consistent training. In general, however, it is easy to train and impresses with its high willingness to learn.

He quickly gets excited about new activities and wants to spend a lot of time with you. He is particularly motivated by sports such as dog dancing or agility. But it is also suitable as a companion dog for riding or cycling. The Aussiedoodle is particularly suitable as a family dog. It actively seeks contact with children and is always in a playful mood, much to their delight.

The right food

A special diet is not necessary for the Aussiedoodle. Food allergies are rather rare in this breed. Their digestive tract is very robust and tolerates dry food, wet food and BARF. When choosing food, you should only consider the age of your dog.

The level of activity also plays a role. Particularly active dogs, for example, need a high-energy food with a high nutrient density. Food with a high meat content is generally recommended.

To prevent a possible intolerance, cereals containing gluten should be removed from the diet.

Sugar also has no place in your Aussiedoodle's diet! It can lead to obesity, diabetes and dental problems.

In general, wet food and BARF are the higher quality feeding options. Dry food is easier to portion and is the less complicated choice when traveling.

Check the vitamin and nutrient supply regularly and optimize it if necessary. Also keep an eye on your Aussiedoodle's weight and adjust the amount of food accordingly.

Health & Care

In addition to nutrition, proper care is also crucial for a long and healthy life. So give it enough attention every day.

Check the claws regularly and trim them yourself if necessary or have them trimmed by a vet or dog groomer.

Ear care is also important for this breed, as they are more prone to inflammation. Therefore, always keep the ears clean and dry.

To prevent tartar, you should regularly offer chewing bones or other chewing opportunities. Brushing your dog's teeth with a special toothpaste is also a good idea.

As the Aussiedoodle does not shed its coat, it should be combed regularly. Otherwise it can become matted over time. Also remove coarse dirt from the coat after every walk.

Bathe your Aussiedoodle about once a month or as needed, but not too often. Bathing too often damages the natural protection of the skin and coat.

Treat him to a visit to the groomer every few months to have his coat trimmed. This should not take too long, especially in summer, to prevent unnecessary heat build-up.

Regular visits to the vet are a must when keeping an Aussiedoodle! It doesn't matter whether he is healthy or ill. Have him regularly vaccinated, wormed and checked for possible diseases as a preventative measure.

Suitable accessories

As the Aussiedoodle is a medium-sized dog, it requires a larger dog bed (L to XL). A suitable dog crate is also an advantage for transportation in the car. Alternatively, it can be strapped into the back seat using a special belt system.

A large bowl of fresh water should always be within reach.

His retreat should be a quiet corner of the house where he is not disturbed by draughts or noise.

Harness, collar, lead, claw clippers, tick tweezers and a non-slip food bowl are part of the basic equipment.

You should also always have a good coat brush in the house. It removes coarse dirt from the coat and prevents it from becoming matted over time. A mild dog shampoo is suitable for regular bathing.

Chew bones and toys are sure to please your Aussiedoodle. Make sure that all toys are dog-friendly. They should be able to withstand the biting force of this dog breed.

Your dog will also be happy to have an escape-proof garden. Make sure that there are no poisonous plants within your dog's reach.

Origin & History

Like the Labradoodle, the Aussiedoodle belongs to the so-called designer dogs. Its origins lie in America and Canada. The breed has become increasingly popular there in recent years.

Initially, the Labradoodle went down in history as the first designer cross. Later, however, breeders increasingly looked for other designer crosses. This is how the Aussiedoodle came into being.

His breeding goal is to combine the best characteristics of the Aussie and the Poodle. But the hypoallergenic coat was also a decisive factor in the breeding process. This makes the Aussiedoodle an allergy-friendly dog.

Soon after the first successful breeding attempts, the Aussiedoodle gained popularity. This went far beyond the borders of America and Canada. It also became a popular representative of designer dogs in European countries. It is particularly popular as a loyal companion and family dog.

Its intelligent nature also makes it suitable as a guide dog for the blind or therapy dog. Its high willingness to learn and its calm disposition are decisive advantages here. Its hypoallergenic coat also makes it suitable for allergy sufferers.
