Determine your dog's daily calorie needs based on activity level
Determine your dog's daily calorie needs
Note: This is an estimate based on the RER/DER formula. Actual needs may vary depending on metabolism, breed, and individual factors. Adjust food amount based on your dog's body condition.
The resting energy requirement (RER) is calculated as 70 Γ (body weight in kg)^0.75. This value is multiplied by an activity factor: 1.2 for sedentary dogs up to 2.5 for working dogs. Our calculator also considers age, neutering status, and life stage.
Yes, neutered dogs have 20-30% lower energy requirements. Without adjusting food intake, they gain weight quickly. Gradually reduce portions after neutering and monitor weight regularly.
Puppies need significantly more energy than adult dogs: about 2-3 times the resting energy requirement. Energy needs peak in the first 4 months. From 6 months, requirements gradually approach adult levels.
